About Eldr.
Design
Born from a love of nature and an obsession with historical design, Eldr celebrates the beauty of slow homewares and considered crafts.
The folklore designs are influenced by the woodlands and wild hedgerows in the rural Devon & Somerset landscapes. My grandmothers passion for medieval and vintage homewares and interiors have also inspired this journey.
Ethos
Embracing a slow and considered approach to design, our low impact, limited collections & hand crafted designs hope to make a lasting impression. For each collection 5% of all sales will be donated to a chosen charity or organisation.
Collection I charity proceeds will go to Motor Neurone Disease Association
Elder Tree Folklore
The name Eldr is inspired by the elder tree, a native British species steeped in folklore, mythology and magic. Feared by the devil and cherished by foragers, this ancient tree embodies the folk traditions, beliefs, and natural beauty that also inspire us.
The tree is believed to be associated with faery realms in Celtic countries, in the Isle of Man it is commonly thought of as the 'fairy tree' attracting the Faery King & Queen on Midsummer’s Eve, Beltane or Samhain.
The 13th month in the Celtic Tree Calendar’s cycle belongs to the Elder Moon, and signifies both a beginning and an end, which was reflected in many of the pagan festivals.
The versatile properties of this tree has been prescribed throughout the ages for its healing & medicinal properties and continues to be a culinary favourite.
